Bio
Ted Helms retired as the Executive Director of The Brazilian-American Chamber of
Commerce, Inc., a position he held as of April of 2017.
During that time he introduced a series of events that not only highlighted Brazil's political
and economic developments, but also explored broader topics including education,
society, and philanthropy.
He previously served as the Chamber’s President & Chairman of the Board (2013 – 2014) Mr.
Helms has a long and varied career in finance and investor relations in Latin America: He
started with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. (1981 – 1991; now merged with JPMorgan) as
an international banking officer for the Caribbean and Andean regions, with posts in Peru
and Venezuela.
In 1991, he joined the New York office of Petróleos de Venezuela, arranging external
financing for its ambitious program during that decade (pre-Chavez).
In 1999, he was named the General Manager of PETROBRAS’s New York office, serving first as
a corporate finance officer and from 2007, as global head of investor relations.
Mr. Helms graduated from Columbia College in New York City with a degree in Philosophy /
Economics.
